Citizenship and Elections in Dili, Timor-Leste, 2012.
Working at the time of the 2012 Parliamentary and Presidential elections, a small research team comprised of student interns from the International Studies and International Development Program, along with Centre for Global Research staff and four East Timorese staff, undertook surveys and interviews in three sites within Dili, collected election related material and interviewed staff working with international organisations so as to examine the concept of citizenship during an election period in Timor-Leste. The project was particularly interested in the process of political decision-making and the nature of people’s relationship to the political process and the state more generally in post-colonial societies.
